DRAMA AS UNIVERSITY STUDENTS STORM FUNERAL, RUNS AWAY WITH COFFIN

A requiem held for the late Caroline Aluoch came to a stand still on Saturday after a group of students from Kisii University stormed the ceremony and made away with the coffin.

Aluoch, who died while working in Saudi Arabia, was a fourth year student at the varsity.

The students stormed Atemo Primary School in Kabondo-Kasipul where the coffin was placed, and carried it back to her home.

The turn of events forced the master of ceremony to stop the programme for 30 minutes before the chief’s intervention.

Aluoch went to Saudi Arabia to work, though her family back in Homa Bay was adamant about her going.

They could not afford to pay her fees at Kisii University where she was a Bachelor of Education student. She suspended her studies.

The Higher Education Loans Board delayed her disbursement and she had missed end-of-semester exams.

“She was in the second year of her studies. She went looking for employment but could not get anything, so we started a business,” said Beryl Akiri, Aluoch’s sister during a previous interview
