The Kenya Railways Corporation has urged Kenyans to exercise caution and be on high alert as they cross railway lines across the country, now that traffic has increased in most of the lines.

The agency further noted that anyone found guilty of such an offence is liable to for ten years imprisonment.

“The last year has seen an increase in the frequency of both freight and passenger operations following the operation of our meter gauge railway countrywide…We therefore wish to sensitize pedestrians and motorists on the importance of observing rail traffic rules to avoid accidents.

“It is a major offence for any person who unlawfully does any act to obstruct the working of a train or vehicle of a corporation which endanger or might endanger the life of any person,” the statement read in part.
