3 Police Officers Crashed to Death

According to a police report filed at Lunga Lunga police station, the incident unfolded when a speeding Mazda rammed the officers who were controlling traffic at the Rangwe junction, into a nearby forklift.

The sequence of events began when a probox, travelling from Donholm towards the House of Manji, collided with a forklift that was turning onto Rangwe Road from the opposite direction.

The traffic officers, in the company of two colleagues, rushed to the scene to rescue the victims of the crash.

Minutes later, the driver of the Mazda, travelling from Donholm, crashed into the scene and rammed the two officers into the forklift.

As a result, the two officers died on the spot, while their colleagues sustained chest, waist and head injuries.

Emergency responders rushed the injured officers to Nairobi West and Mama Lucy hospitals for medical attention.

The bodies of the deceased officers were transported to Chiromo Mortuary, where they await autopsy procedures.

This accident highlights the prevalence of rise in cases of road accidents in Kenya. According to the latest data by the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA), 2,124 deaths were recorded from road accidents between January and June 2023.

Pedestrians led the highest number of fatalities with 330, followed by boda boda riders at 265 and passengers at 171.

NTSA said that the most common causes of accidents were caused by over speeding, drunk driving, and reckless driving.
