TOP MEDIA HOUSE FORCED TO APOLOGIZE TO RAILA

Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, through his legal team Awele Jackson Advocates, issued a cease and desist letter to Daily Nation over an article carried on the cover of Saturday Nation, on Saturday, February 25.

According to the letter dated Saturday, February 25, Raila’s team argued that the information published by the newspaper was false, and malicious and damaged his character.

“You will publish an equivocal apology and/or retraction of the defamatory publication against our client with commensurate prominence in the print and electronic media within 24 hours from the date thereof,” the letter read in part.

This comes hours after the Saturday Nation newspaper alleged that Raila Odinga’s African Union permanent representative office was funded through taxpayers money.

The media house had claimed that they had obtained the information from top sources among them allies of His Excellency the Head of State President William Ruto.

National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wa stirred the debate with a claim that the government had spent Sh600 million annually to run Mr Odinga’s AU role.

This, he said, was money remitted by Kenya through the continental body that has its headquarters in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

It is not yet clear if the Nation Media Group will go ahead to issue an apology with their article having indicated that the office of the former Prime Minister Raila Amollo Odinga has denied the allegations.
