REST IN PEACE! BOAT CARRYING POPULAR MP, GOVT OFFICIALS CAPSIZES.

Sad moments for Kenyans after a boar carrying popular member of Parliament and government official capsized.

Lamu Woman Representative Ruweida Obo and 14 other people are nursing injuries sustained after a boat they were travelling in capsized.

The team, which included government officials was headed to a sensitisation event in Amu Island where they were to meet the regions chiefs.

Speaking to the press on Tuesday, December 28, Obo noted that the boat toppled after hitting a rock at Mkanda Channel.

Three of the occupants then fell into the Indian Oceans but fortunately, no one died.

Obo noted that the group had left Mtangawanda on Pate Island but the captain lost control of the boat and hit the rock at the scene of the accident.

“We are all fine, just a few minor injuries but we have lost a lot of valuable gadgets and others which have been destroyed by the water,” she told Citizen TV.

All 15 people were rushed to Lamu County Hospital where they are receiving treatment.

Odo is an experienced captain herself flown prominent politicians in the country including Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader, Raila Odinga, Siaya Senator James Aggrey Orengo and Governors Hassan Ali Joho of Mombasa and Anyang Nyong’o of Kisumu.

She joined politics in 2017 while still flying and successfully contested for the Lamu Woman Representative seat on a Jubilee Party ticket, flooring five other contestants, including Shakilla Abdala, the former holder of the position.

Lamu has over the past year recorded more ocean deaths than any other county in Kenya.

A report by the Kenya Maritime Authority released in mid-December indicated that at least 11 people lost their lives on the county’s shores since January.

166 others were however rescued by the Kenya Maritime Authority in the same period.
