KENYANS BEING GIVEN FAKE COVID-19 CERTIFICATES

The Ministry of Health has issued a warning to individuals obtaining fake COVID-19 vaccination certificates by manipulating the Chanjo System; a digital platform created to support vaccine delivery with core functionalities of registration, vaccine scheduling and digital certification.

In a statement issued on Friday, Health CS Mutahi Kagwe said action would be taken against anyone found culpable for the offence.

“We would like to point out that we have received media reports that there may be some people manipulating the Chanjo system to issue certificates to persons not vaccinated,” said the CS.

He added: “It is important for the public to appreciate that even if you cheat the system, you cannot cheat the coronavirus.”

Meanwhile, 42 more people have tested positive for COVID-19 from a sample size of 4,971 tested in the last 24 hours, marking a positivity rate of 0.8%.

The Ministry of Health said the total confirmed positive cases now stand at 254,904 while cumulative tests so far conducted are 2,821,144.

“From the cases, 40 are Kenyans while two are foreigners; 21 are males and 21 are females, while the youngest is a 13-year-old and the oldest is 95 years,” reads the statement.

The cases were distributed across various counties namely; Nairobi 11, Uasin Gishu 5, Kericho 3, Makueni 2, Marsabit 2, Nakuru 2, Mombasa 2, Narok 2, Tharaka Nithi 2, Bomet 1, Embu 1, Garissa 1, Kajiado 1, Kisii 1, Nyamira 1, Kisumu 1and Kakamega 1.

The ministry said 15 patients recovered from the disease, with 13 from the Home-Based Isolation and Care program while 2 were discharged from various health facilities countrywide. Total recoveries stand at 248,085.

No death was recorded today and the cumulative fatalities still remain at 5,333.

“A total of 358 patients are currently admitted in various health facilities countrywide, while 971 are under the Home-Based Isolation and Care program,” read a statement signed by Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe.

“16 patients are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 7 of whom are on ventilatory support and 9 on supplemental oxygen. No patient is under observation.”

The CS noted an increase in the number of persons turning up for vaccination attributing the same to the new directives and measures issued by the government.

“For the first time since the vaccination exercise kicked off, we have recorded the highest number of vaccines administered on a single day. As of November 25th, 2021, we recorded a total of 110,909 vaccines administered, 64,123 are first doses while 46,786 are second doses,” he stated.
