DEPUTY PRESIDENT MOCKS RAILA AND UHURU

Deputy President William Ruto has broken his silence after the Court of Appeal on Friday, August 20, 2021, upheld the High Court ruling that declared Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) unconstitutional and unlawful.

DP Ruto was in a celebratory mood thanking God following the decision that was made by the court of appeal judges.

“God, our heavenly father has come through for Kenya & stopped the coalition of the known, the mighty, & the powerful from destroying our constitution. Our God, help the alliance of the unknown, the jobless, the Hustlers & struggling farmers to now engineer our economy from bottom up,” DP Ruto tweeted.

The Court of Appeal threw out the BBI appeal and overwhelmingly ruled President Uhuru Kenyatta could not initiate changes to the Constitution through a popular initiative.

“BBI steering committee has no legal capacity to initiate any action towards promoting constitutional changes,” Court of Appeal President Daniel Musinga stated.

At the same time, ODM leader Raila Odinga also issued a statement regarding the BBI ruling.

The former premier appreciated the court’s ruling, stating that it forms part of the continuing conversation on the future of the country and the significance of the 2010 Constitution to the political culture in Kenya now and in the near future.

Odinga, a key proponent of the BBI bill, noted that it is time to move on after six of the seven Court of Appeal judges ruled to uphold the decision by the High Court declaring the Constitution Amendment Bill 2020 null and void.
