BIG BLOW TO ALFRED MUTUA AS HIS CLOSE ALLY JOINS DP RUTO’S CAMP

On Wednesday, December 1, Deputy President William Ruto received a huge boost in his 2022 presidential bid after Maendeleo Chap Chap secretary-general Stephen Kilonzo defected to the United Democratic Alliance (UDA).

Kilonzo said he would run for the Kitui senatorial seat on a UDA ticket.

He lashed out at MCC party leader Alfred Mutua for lacking a clear stand on whether he would vie for the presidency in the upcoming polls.

“In 2017, I ran on a party that did not have a presidential candidate who I could sell to help me implement my promises. I am now more at home because I will run on UDA that has a formidable presidential candidate in DP William Ruto,” Kilonzo stated as reported by Citizen TV.

The senatorial aspirant said he made the move after consultations with UDA officials, whom he described as more accommodative than MCC.

In the 2017 General Election, Kilonzo emerged second after being defeated by Wiper’s Enoch Wambua.

He said he wouldn’t make the same mistake of vying on Mutua’s party as he had a rough time convincing Kitui residents.

Kilonzo joins a growing list of politicians who have decamped to UDA ahead of 2022 polls.
