THE AMOUNT OF MONEY GIVEN TO MUTUA BY RUTO REVEALED

Hours after ditching the Azimio la Umoja coalition and joining Deputy President William Ruto’s Kenya Kwanza, Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua has been thrown under fire as leaders in Azimio accuse him of being blinded by greed for money.
Mutua severed ties with the Azimio camp on Monday, claiming that his party, Maendeleo Chap Chap (MCC), had been kept in the dark about the Azimio la Umoja affairs and had yet to access or understand the coalition agreement.

Led by Azimio La Umoja Secretary General Junet Mohamed, leaders in the outfit blamed Mutua for being too gullible that he was bribed to join Ruto’s team.

Speaking at a rally in Kajiado on Monday, they said that Mutua is self-centered and he does not make the cut to be a competent leader since he is driven by personal interests.

“Mimi nimeshangaa kwamba kuna viongozi wengine, badaa tuangalie mbele kama vile baba anataka, wanaangalia nafsi zao. Kama utaleta ubinafsi hapa, Azimio sio nyumba yako,” said Junet.

“Kuna mambo baba hawezi compromise awe ama asiwe rais, kama wewe unataka pesa ya kuhongwa, ati ulipwe pesa fulani ndio uende, baba hana pesa kama hiyo. Na kama unaleta conditions kama hizo hapa Azimio, mlango iko wazi tafadhali.”

Kitui Governor Charity Ngilu on her part said: “Ningependa wale viongozi ambao wako hapa waanze kufundisha viongozi wengine, kwa sababu wameanza kuongozwa na tumbo zao kwanza, wakiangalia upande huu wanaona pesa zimejaa huko kwa UDA ndio wanakimbia huko. Leo mmoja wetu amekimbia huko sababu amepewa pesa.”

Denying Mutua’s claims on being sidelined from being engaged in coalition agreement talks, Junet maintained that all leaders were synergized in the exercise and no one was excluded.

“Mimi kama Secretary General wa Azimio nasema Azimio ikona vyama ishirini na sita na wote wameweka mkataba na kila party leader ameweka sahihi na wakapeleka kwa registrar of politial parties,” he said.

Junet further expressed confidence that the defection of leaders from Azimio has not crippled the party, assuring their supporters that they are still on course on clinching the presidential seat come August 9.

“Sisi hatuna wasiwasi. Wale ambao wanafikiri ya kwamba Azimio inaweza yumbayumba nataka wajue Azimio inaongozwa na mtu jasiri na ni mtu ameendesha vyama vingi hapa Kenya na tunajua atashinda tarehe tisa.”
