Moi’s Son Goes Missing

The dynasty baggage was becoming very heavy for him even as he pleaded with Rongai constituency residents to give him another chance to lead them.

It was August 2022 and another member of the famous former President Daniel Arap Moi family was fighting for his political future.

Gideon Moi, the former Baringo County senator had just been slayed by William Cheptumo. And just like that, the former President’s anointed political successor had been crushed by the UDA wave which had been ignited by the then Deputy President William Ruto.

As for Raymond Moi, his political goose had long been cooked even before the delayed Rongai MP race in 2022. Though he wore a brave face that he would survive, the Ruto political army would soon probe him wrong.

And just as many people had predicted, Raymond Moi was politically buried in Rongai, the place his once powerful father was laid to rest two years earlier.

And just like that, the political dynasty of the man who ruled Kenya for 24 years has been consigned into the political dustbin.

Paul Chebor, the man who had crushed Raymond’s dream for a historic third term, is now viewed as a hero by Ruto supporters.

For the sexagenarian Raymond, his 2022 defeat may as well be the end of the road for him in Rift Valley’s rough political terrain. Since his defeat, he has maintained an uncharacteristic low political profile. This is perhaps the strongest indicator that he is done with politics.

Even if he still harbours political ambitions, it will not be an easy ride for him going forward.
