The driver of a truck transportingLiquified Petroleum Gas(LPG) narrowly escaped death after the truck he was driving lost control and overturned before exploding into a ball of fire at Kipsitet bridge on the Kericho-Kisumu Highway.
According to eyewitnesses, the truck that was ferrying the LPG towards Kisumu appeared to have experienced brake failure in the Sunday afternoon incident.
The truck was descending a steep stretch of highway when the driver lost control, veered off the road, overturned, and landed in a ditch, according to police.
The truck burst into flames moments later.
Members of the public and other road users passing through the highway helped to rescue the driver, who suffered minor injuries and was taken to Kericho County Referral Hospital.
The Kericho County fire department rushed to the scene and attempted to extinguish the fire, but by the time they arrived, the vehicle had been reduced to a shell.
The wreckage was later removed from the scene and towed to Kericho police station.
