CHAOS AS MOURNERS BURN DOWN FIVE HOUSES

A family in Mungakha village, Kakamega county, will be spending the night in cold after mourners torched their home in an alleged act of revenge.

The mourners are said to have torched all the five houses in the said homestead after accusing their son of having a hand in the murder of their kin.

Nderema chief John Wasike confirmed the incident.

“The mourners were transporting the remains of their son who was recently murdered by a gang when chaos erupted,” said Wasike.

“The procession was moving from the Kakamega county referral hospital morgue when they suddenly descended on the homestead, destroying property and setting the houses on fire,” added Wasike.

The mourners were ferrying the body of their dead kin to Shinoyi village for burial – when they took a detour to the said homestead and burned it down to the ground.

“The young man suspected of taking part in the alleged killing is believed to have escaped to Nairobi,” said Wasike.

The chief said that the police with the help of local administration are actively investigating the two incidences.

Wasike also cautioned residents against taking the law into their own hands.
