According to previous reports, President Uhuru Kenyatta will be the person to decide who will deputize former Prime Minister Raila Odinga in the August 9th general elections.

This is because the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) and the Jubilee Party (JP) have come together to form the Azimio La Umoja Movement Coalition (ALUMC).

Since Hon Raila, who is ODM’s leader, will become the flag bearer of the coalition,JP will have to produce the running mate to balance of things and try and get votes from the strongholds of the two parties.

JP stronghold is the Mount Kenya region and ,therefore, Raila’s is likely to come from the region.

In previous interviews, Hon Raila said he is open and ready to work with a running mate from the region.

This will boost his presidential bid since the region had close to 22% of the total votes in the last general elections and if they change their stand and vote in favour of Raila, through a running mate from the region, ALUMC is likely to form the next government.

Several names from Central Kenya have been linked to Raila’s running mate position. This includes; Agriculture Cabinet Secretary (CS) Peter Munya, NARC party leader Martha Karua, Nakuru Governor Lee Kinyajui and former Gatanga Member of Parliament (MP) Peter Kenneth.
Today, JP Meru branch has asked President Uhuru to pick CS Munya.

The leaders led by their chairman Kaana Ka Njoka are saying that Munya is the best candidate to stand for the Mt Kenya region and he will cater for the interest of the people better than any other candidate.”What the Uhuru regime has done is immense.

We are not asking for much but a favor. Endorse Munya as Raila’s deputy,” Kaana said. The leaders added the region will be happy if Munya becomes the deputy president. “He has shown integrity and leadership in all the ministries. He has also revived the agricultural sector through transformative reforms,” Kaana added.

In their speech, the leaders also asked the youths not to support politicians blindly but instead they should support President Uhuru’s government. They also criticized DP Ruto for disrespecting his boss.
