SENIOR COUNSEL JAMES ORENGO DROPS A BOMBSHELL

Senator James Orengo has called on Siaya governor Cornel Rasanga to drop his Alego Usonga parliamentary bid and be part of Raila Odinga’s 2022 campaign secretariat so as to earn lucrative portfolio in the national government post once the former premier ascends to power.

Orengo, who was addressing Siaya traders during a fund-drive on Friday September 24, said that two-term governors would be vital in Raila’s country-wide campaigns and that by gunning for a parliamentary seat, Rasanga is betraying the ODM Leader’s course.

Orengo opined that going for a parliamentary seat after exiting a gubernatorial position would be a degrade to the county chief’s caliber.

He stated that so far, Rasanga is the only governor who has declared his 2022 intentions as other county heads like Mombasa governor Hassan Joho, Kakamega governor Wycliff Oparanya and Homabay governor Cyprian Awiti have joined Raila in a country-wide tour aimed at wooing voters in favour of his 2022 presidential bid.

“I want to plead with Rasanga as a friend whom I campaigned for twice in Siaya to forget the Alego Usonga parliamentary seat and focus on national campaigns that would see Raila capture the presidential seat,” Orengo said, adding that the outgoing governors will be rewarded with cabinet slots or other lucrative jobs that match their levels.

Rasanga is keen at succeeding incumbent Alego Usonga MP Samwel Atandi , who is serving his first term in parliament.

“Raila will make politicians like the two-term governors part of his campaign secretariat who will be sent countrywide to convince voters to elect him as the fifth president,” the senior counsel said.

Orengo’s sentiments come in the backdrop of similar concerns by the Kakan Community clan, who have been beseeching Rasanga to shelve his parliamentary aspiration.

On his part, the incumbent MP Samwel Atandi reiterated the senator’s statements, saying that Rasanga is currently ripe for national posts.
