RAILA ODINGA DUMPS RICHARD NGATIA

Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga on Sunday confirmed that Westlands Member of Parliament Tim Wanyonyi is his preferred candidate for Nairobi Governor’s seat.

While addressing his supporters in Kawangware Estate, Odinga introduced Wanyonyi as the next governor of Kenya’s capital, an indication that the MP is his preferred choice for the highly contested county seat.

“I am here with a big team. Kakamega governor Wycliffe Oparanya, former Dagoreti South MP Dennis Waweru…Mama Beatrice Elachi and next Nairobi Governor Tim Wanyonyi,” Odinga said.

This is the second time that the former Prime Minister has publicly declared Mr Wanyonyi as the next governor of Nairobi.

Raila’s latest consideration comes amid claims that he had changed his mind about his preferred candidate for the city’s top job with reports claiming that he preferred Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KNCCI) president Richard Ngatia over Wanyonyi for the county seat.

Raila’s sentiment was also echoed by ODM Secretary-General Edwin Sifuna and Makadara MP George Aladwa.

On his address at the same rally, Wanyonyi also urged Kangemi residents to back Raila’s presidential bid saying that the ODM leader is ripe to steer the country in the right direction.

The lawmaker assured his party leader that Nairobi is solidly behind him and that he will be the next President of Kenya.

“It is a must we take Raila to State House within 90 minutes,” Mr Wanyonyi said as he addressed the residents.
