Police Officer Find Boss Dead With Fruits in Her Hands

A police officer stationed at Kinoo Police Station in Kiambu County was on Tuesday found dead in her residence by a fellow officer who was requesting to be relieved from duty.

According to a police report number 3/15/10/2023, the incident began in the morning hours when Police Constable Leah Wangui went to Corporal Paul Cheboi’s house, who is her neighbour, and asked him to prepare porridge and fruits, which they both took.

At the time, constable Wangui informed Cheboi that she wasn’t feeling well but thanked him for the breakfast that he had provided. Wangui, who appeared drunk, went back to bed to rest.

Later in the evening, Corporal Cheboi went to check on Wangui’s progress and to ask her to relieve him from the duties of the day.

However, he found her lying on the floor, with a banana and half orange fruit in her right hand.

The junior officer alerted Sub-County Police Commander and Officer Commanding Station (OCS) Kinoo Geoffrey Gituba who visited the scene.

Preliminary investigations revealed that Officer Wangui was still recovering from alcoholism, since she was discharged from the Chiromo rehabilitation centre in May.

At her house, the detectives recovered assorted bottles of 750 ml spirit and one half taken 750 ml spirit bottle which were taken as exhibits.

Wangui’s body, which had no visible injuries, was taken to Kenyatta University mortuary awaiting post-mortem.

Experts have warned of mental health crises in the police force, with cases of murders and suicides on the rise.

The latest data by the National Police Service (NPS) revealed that one in every ten police officers in the country suffers from mental health conditions.

In order to tackle the issue, the Service has established channels for officers to communicate with their bosses or colleagues about any work-related challenges.

Counselors, medics, and psychologists recommend seeking help whenever you experience any mental health issue. Call the Kenya Red Cross toll-free hotline, 1199, for support.
