Kalonzo Replaced

There could be plans to replace some of the people the Azimio La Umoja coalition has named as it’s representatives in the new talks, it is emerging.

Daily Nation has established that some Azimio members are concerned about the inclusion of Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka and Eugene Wamalwa (DAP-K), going by their political rankings.

This group believes that going by how the Kenya Kwanza side has constituted it’s own team, Kalonzo and Wamalwa are being subjected to negotiations with people who are far below them.

Among those of such a belief is Makueni Senator Dan Maanzo, who says that Kalonzo, specifically, should leave the team, because Kenya Kwanza seems out to embarrass him by bringing in parliamentarians.

“I’d advise he withdraws from that team because Kenya Kwanza seems to have reduced it to the level of parliament once again,” he told the paper on Friday

Among those being proposed to replace the two are Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, former Ndaragwa Member of Parliament Jeremiah Kioni and former Agriculture Cabinet Minister Kipruto Arap Kirwa.

But there are also those who see nothing wrong with how the team is currently constituted, among them Makueni governor Mutula Kilonzo Jr.

He says that Kalonzo is a known arbitrator, whose presence in the team is actually a gain for Azimio.

“Kalonzo is an arbitrator per excellence. His role in any mediation should be looked at from the perspective of a guru in political negotiations,” the county chief, who belongs to Kalonzo’s Wiper Party, told the paper.

“These matters appear mundane but they are not. Anyone sitting to negotiate must see Kenya as a whole and not follow partisan interests,” he is further quoted
