I DON’T WANT TO BECOME PRESIDENT- DP GACHAGUA
Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua revealed that he did not sign a pre-election pact with President William Ruto in the run to the August 9 polls.
Speaking in Muranga County on Friday, December 2, Gachagua stated that he and the Head of State trusted each other hence the decision not to sign a deal.
He expressed that his boss was an honourable man and that they had been friends for over 20 years, allaying any fears of betrayal.
“When other people came to join Ruto, they signed pacts with him on what to expect. The people from the mountain did not sign any MOU with him because we trusted him and he trusted us,” he stated.
In response to reports that he had been shortchanged in government appointments, Gachagua indicated that the Mount Kenya region had received more slots than they had anticipated.
“The appointing authority in this government is William Ruto. We do not have a co-presidency, I just assist him. All the appointments are his prerogative,” he stated.
Additionally, he indicated that the region would get more appointments in the coming weeks.
Gachagua pledged to rally the vote-rich region to support Ruto’s administration, hinting at raiding Azimio la Umoja for more members.
“The region will continue benefiting from Ruto’s government. In the forthcoming appointments for ambassadors, you will still benefit. Dr Ruto is truthful and honest, and we will consolidate our support for him.
“Our colleagues in the opposition are welcome to Kenya Kwanza Alliance because they were coerced and intimidated to join Azimio,” Gachagua asserted.
In Ruto’s cabinet, six appointees were from the larger Mount Kenya region.
Notable CSs appointed from Mount Kenya included Alice Wahome (Water), Moses Kuria (Trade), Njuguna Ndung’u (Treasury) and Mithika Linturi (Agriculture), among others.
