GOOD NEWS TO JIMMY WANJIGI

Businessman and presidential candidate Jimi Wanjigi has breathed a sigh of relief after the court suspended his prosecution. 

Milimani Senior Principal Magistrate Bernard Ochoi halted prosecution of the businessman to verify an order that had stopped his arrest until February 9.

On Tuesday, January 18, Justice Antony Mrima issued an order restraining the Inspector General (IG) and the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) from arresting Wanjigi.

However, DCI boss George Kinoti proceeded to arrest the businessman saying he was not part of those restrained from executing the arrest. 

“Please read the orders clearly. The judge did not restrain the DCI from arresting or presenting to court the suspect

“The order has three respondents but only two IG and DPP have been restrained. So as DCI, we are free to proceed with our work,” Kinoti told a local daily. 

On Wednesday, January 19, a battery of lawyers representing Wanjigi protested his arraignment and prosecution citing violating of the order issued by Justice Mrima. 

 “The order is to the effect which restrained the first and second respondents from instituting, arresting, registering and or continuing any criminal charge or charges against Wanjigi,” lawyer Willis Otieno told the court.
