Police Officers Forced to Run For Safety.
Police have hurled teargas canisters at Azimio leaders’ convoy as they tried to storm into Nairobi’s Central Business District (CBD) after holding a SabaSaba rally at Kamukunji Grounds today.
The Azimio leaders led by Raila Odinga had just addressed the supporters at Kamukunji Grounds when they launched a peaceful procession of the Nairobi’s Central Business District.
While speaking at the rally, Raila told the crowd that they were going to hold a peaceful match to the CBD.
Raila told the supporters that they were going to hold a public rally near Serena hotel in the CBD after the Kamukunji rally. He urged the Azimio supporters to be ready to use alternative routes should the police try to block them form reaching the CBD.
After leaving the Kamukunji Grounds, the Azimio troop met the first police roadblock where the police hurled teargas at Raila’s Convoy, trying to block them from moving into the CBD.
However, the adamnt Azimio troops continue with their journey despite the teargas, forcing the police that were manning the roadblock to scamper for their safety as the crowd was approaching them.
As seen in a photo shared by the source, the police could be seen driving away in their land cruiser as the crowd approached them.
“Police forced to scamper for safety as Azimio #SabaSaba procession successfully forces its way through the first police barricade set up to block their exit from Kamukunji grounds. Raila’s motorcade was heavily teargassed and multiple rounds of live bullets fired in the air,” reported the source.
