WHAT RUTO PLANS TO DO IF MPs FAILS TO PASS FINANCE BILL
President William Ruto, who tirelessly defended the finance bill for several weeks in 2023, has recently disclosed his stance on the potential rejection of the bill by members of parliament.
According to an article published in Monday’s edition of The Standard, Ruto stated that he would be unable to fulfill his promise of creating five million jobs if the bill fails to secure parliamentary approval.
Speaking in Busia county, the president urged lawmakers to pass the bill, emphasizing the importance of their support in enabling him to deliver on the commitments he made to the Kenyan people during the previous year’s election campaigns.
Ruto’s statement comes in response to the growing opposition from Kenyans and Azimio la Umoja, one of the leaders of the Kenya Coalition, who have devised strategies to thwart Ruto’s tax proposals.
” Do you want us to shoot down this budget? So you are telling your MPs to pass the bill? Let me who wants our MPs to do the job quickly. You ( MPs) listen, this is the voice of the people passing the bill and if they fail, when they come, ask them your jobs”, he said.
A trustworthy source (The Standard Media) has revealed that Azimio la Umoja, representing the Kenya Coalition, is reportedly preparing to lodge a petition in court if Ruto’s bill successfully passes through parliament.
