FORMER PRESIDENT MWAI KIBAKI IS DEAD
Former President Mwai Kibaki is dead.
His death was announced by President Uhuru Kenyatta on Friday, April 22 at midday during a press briefing at State House Nairobi.
Uhuru announced that Kibaki died on the night of Thursday, April 21.
The President mourned his predecessor as a leader who steered to country’s economic growth, democracy and championed the welfare of all Kenyans.
Uhuru remembered him for his role in the realization of the constitution of Kenya in 2010 and overseeing its implementation.
Kibaki served as Kenya’s third President between 2002 and 2013.
Uhuru announced that in memory of the late Kibaki will observe a period of the morning from today.
He stated that all Kenyan flags at all public buildings, ministries, and missions worldwide will be flown at half-mast until the day he is buried.
Further, Uhuru announced that the late Kibaki will be accorded a state funeral.
