EAST AFRICAN COURT ISSUES A DATE THEY’LL RULE ON KARUA’S CASE

Details are now out on some of the things Azimio La Umoja Second in Command Martha Karua is seeking in her petition at the East African Court of Justice.

The Narc Kenya chief has moved to the court against the Supreme Court’s validation of President William Ruto’s election in September.

Among the orders she is seeking is that the government of Kenya, under Ruto, be directed to compensate her over the Supreme Court ruling, which she says violates her rights.

Karua, who is has filed the suit alongside the Muslims for Human Rights (MUHURI) group, further wants the court to confirm that the ruling was undemocratic.

“The applicants (Karua and MUHURI) are seeking a declaration that the determination given by the Supreme Court of Kenya on September 8, 2022 and the detailed judgement of September 26, 2022, was not done in accordance with the provisions of the Constitution and the laws of Kenya,” he suit reads.

She is also after a confirmation from the court that Ruto was not justly elected, a belief she has held since the conclusion of the election.

“As a result of the actions of the impugned organs of the respondent State, and past conduct, the applicants (Karua and MUHURI), and others aggrieved with the said-violations, earnestly feel that they will not receive any sufficient redress, unless this court takes measures to redress this situation,” her papers further read as a was seen by The Standard.

Her principal, Raila Odinga, however seems to have come to terms with the situation and appears to be slowly taking up Opposition Leader roles.
