AZIMIO LEADERS KICKED OUT OF CHURCH
Azimio leaders were on Sunday, nearly evicted from a Sunday service after disagreements emerged between congregants and their spiritual leaders
The Azimio leaders including Martha Karua and Kalonzo Musyoka among others had just arrived in Kiambu to attend the church service in Ruiru before the scuffles started.
According to reports by Citizen TV’s reporter Chemutai Goin, the church was celebrating Palm Sunday before the Azimio leaders joined them. However, their presence reportedly caused tension among believers, with some of them calling for their eviction from the church.
The leaders were reportedly forced to retreat to a room in the church and after a lengthy discussion, they agreed to host the leaders and have the sermon continue
“Raila was expected to join his counterparts for this service but now it appears he may not be coming. The sermon has now continued, we had an incident and we are still trying to clarify.
There were a number of church members who somehow, showed opposition and did not want to have politicians in the church today. There was a bit of commotion and after a private discussion in one of the rooms in the church, the sermon was allowed to continue” stated Chemutai Goin
Raila Odinga was also expected at the church to join his colleagues. The sermon was, however, forced to continue without Raila Odinga, who had not arrived at the church by 1 pm on Sunday
Raila Odinga is on Monday, expected to carry out what he has termed as the “mother of all demonstrations”. He has, however, been warned by DP Rigathi Gachagua, who has indicated that police will be on high alert and that they will use all means to ensure that no property s looted or destroyed during the demos
Elsewhere, Catholic bishops have said that they will not continue to support demonstrations that will hurt people and destroy properties.
They pleaded with Raila Odinga to respect the holy times of Pass Over and Ramadhan and stop their demonstrations immediately
