ANOTHER PETITION FILED AGAINST RUTO

Another Kenyan has moved to court with a petition against President William Ruto’s list of Principal Secretaries, which was released last week.

Ruto, who has since picked his Cabinet Secretaries, last week appointed his PSs, in a list that has been seen as largely made up of his allies and confidants.

But a Nairobi resident, Frederick Kiberi, has moved to the Milimani Law Courts seeking to have the list invalidated for not adhering to gender balance.

Through his lawyer Danstan Omari, he also cites tribal imbalance, exclusion of marginalized groups and lack of regional balance as bases for his petition.

“The action of H.E the president of the republic of Kenya in nominating who are seemingly close to him in exclusion of those perceived to be in opposition does not reflect his essence as a symbol of national unity and who ought to apply in total the principles of good governance as enlisted in article 1o the Constitution of Kenya 2010,” reads his court papers in part, as seen by Citizen Digital.

He has demanded that the courts stop the appointment process, failure of which parliament will end up vetting an illegal and unconstitutional list.

This comes only days after another Kenyan, human rights defender Benjamin Magare Gikanye, petitioned the same list before the High Court.

He cited lack of inclusivity and failure by the Head of State to adhere to the two thirds gender rule.
