Shakahola Victims Engaging in S3xual Activities at Rescue Center

Concerns have been raised by the State that the 65 victims who are expected to testify against Paul Mackenzie, the alleged head of the Shakahola cult, are engaging in sexual activity while being housed at the rescue centers.

The DPP warned Shanzu Senior Principal Magistrate Joe Omide, via Assistant DPP Yamina Jamii, that if the victims remained at the rescue center, the State would face yet another serious crisis of unwanted pregnancies and cases of gender-based violence.

“The victims have now fully recovered, they are energetic and they have been reported to have sexual intercourse. Most of their time is being spent in this, alongside eating and freely socializing inside their hostels,” he said.

Jamii asked the court to mandate that the victims be relocated from the shelters to Shimo La Tewa G.K prison, where they can be housed separately in male and female cells and have their daily activities more easily monitored.

Two of the surviving individuals have been diagnosed with mental health issues, and the court heard that they will be treated legally once their families can be located.

We are now seeking for the court to make orders to have all the victims held at the prison to avoid a possible crisis where the State will be forced to deal with even before they are turned into witnesses,” he said.

After allegedly being recruited by cult leader Paul Mackenzie, 65 victims were rescued from the Shakahola forest in March of this year.

They had been ordered to fast in preparation for an early death so that they could meet Jesus.
