WANJIGI BEATEN LIKE A BURUKENGE IN MIGORI
Presidential hopeful Jimi Wanjigi’s convoy was pelted with stones on Friday, September 17, 2021, in Migori County.
Videos seen by Kenyans.co.ke showed Wanjigi ducking as some people in the crowd hurled stones at him.
The ODM politician, who is challenging Raila Odinga for the party presidential ticket, was forced to cut short his speech and speed out of Migori town on day two of his Nyanza tour.
His meeting was aborted after a section of delegates accused him of disrespecting the party leader, Raila Odinga.
Addressing residents while in his motorcade, Wanjigi was met with jeers and heckling from a rowdy group that started hurling stones at him.
His tour of the Nyanza region has not been smooth as he had expected. On Thursday, Wanjigi’s Homa Bay visit was met with chaos after youth from the area demanded entry into the contained meeting.
Homa Bay youths forced their way into the meeting called by Wanjigi as he was on the campaign trail.
Security had been in place, ensuring those accessing the venue were orderly and keen on social distancing.
However, the group overpowered the team that was at the door and forced their way into the venue that was already full of delegates from the ODM party.
Organizers could not uphold guidelines by the Ministry of Health due to the chaotic nature of the delegates and youth.
Wanjigi is in Raila’s backyard to popularise his presidential bid and mobilise residents to register as members of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).
The presidential hopeful was initially welcomed by an enthusiastic crowd and delegates who promised to back his bid for State House.
