Priest Resigns After Getting High on Viagra
Pope Francis has accepted the resignation of a Polish Bishop in Poland, where some priests were found high on erectile dysfunction drugs. The Vatican did not provide an official reason for the resignation of the 59-year-old Bishop, even though the retirement age for bishops stands at 75 years.
The diocese in Poland has recently come under scrutiny due to a police investigation involving one of its priests. The incident in question occurred in the priest’s apartment and allegedly involved a male prostitute on August 30-31, 2023.
Reports also suggest that one of the individuals at the gathering had overdosed on erectile dysfunction medication. Furthermore, it’s claimed that the priest initially prevented paramedics from entering the apartment.
The investigation is centered on a “failure to provide assistance to a person in a situation that poses an immediate threat of loss of life or serious damage to health.
This incident has been widely described as a “gay orgy” and has further damaged the image of the Catholic Church, not only in Poland but around the world. In recent years, Poland has witnessed a significant process of secularization, with many people turning away from the church.
This scandal is not the first involving clergy in the Polish diocese to make headlines, and it appears to be the tipping point for the Vatican.
Pope Francis acted swiftly to remove Bishop Kaszak from his position after the bishop offered to resign on September 29, 2023. In a previous incident in 2010, the acting rector of the diocese seminary was reported to have been involved in a scuffle at a gay club.
However, he remained in his role for over a year despite the case being reported by Polish media pages and houses. The Catholic Church did, however, intervene, and the seminary was closed altogether.
