The grim discovery was made near Kimumu Secondary School along Eldoret-Iten Road, where Kiplagat’s body was found inside his brother’s car. The Moiben Sub-County Police Commander, Stephen Okal, confirmed the distressing details, highlighting a deep knife wound on the athlete’s neck.

A swift response from law enforcement saw a team of officers dispatched to the scene to initiate a thorough investigation. Commander Okal assured the media that officers were actively pursuing leads to shed light on the circumstances surrounding Kiplagat’s untimely demise.

Benjamin Kiplagat, aged 34, had carved a notable niche in long-distance races, proudly representing Uganda in the Rio Olympics Games of 2016. His remarkable 17-year career boasted numerous accolades, including Silver at the World Under 20 Championships, Bronze at the African Championships, and consistent placement within the Top 8 category at the Commonwealth Games and All-African Games.

World Athletics Rankings positioned Kiplagat at 38th overall in the Men’s 3,000-meter Steeplechase, underscoring his global standing.
