NEW TWIST AS FAMILY REJECTS MASTEN WANJALA’S BODY.

The family of self-confessed serial killer Masten Wanjala who faced jungle justice 10 days ago says they are not ready to bury their kin with claims that it would attract a curse upon them.

This comes as a new twist since a few days after his death, his father Robert Wanjala Watila pleaded for forgiveness on behalf of his son from the families of the victim and asked the State to give him the body to bury.

The family now says Wanjala’s escape from Jogoo Road Police Station in Nairobi was quite suspicious since he was under heavy police escort during his last visit to his village.

Speaking to a local daily, one family member says they were considering suing the government for Wanjala’s death.

“We know that our son had wronged many families and it was just prudent that the police arraigned him in court and have him charged for the families of the victims to get justice,” he said.

The family of Mzee Robert Wanjala Watila were marked absent during the release of post-mortem results performed by detectives from the homicide team, led by Mr Martin Nyuguto, at Bungoma County Referral Hospital mortuary.

According to their neighbour, the clan fears burying Wanjala might injure their reputation stating that the government might be forced to bury him.

“We’re afraid that if we bury him, we, as a clan, might be perceived as killers,” he said.

Wanajala’s escape from prison after 91 days poked holes in Kenya’s criminal justice system since reports of his escape were released days later.

He had been arrested in July 2021 in connection to the gruesome murder of minors in Nairobi and Bungoma.

Soon after his arrest, he led police officers to more murder scenes in Nairobi and Bungoma where he had dumped the bodies of his victims, who were all children.

Wanjala was detained at the Jogoo Road Police Station and was scheduled to appear in court on October 13.

He was however discovered missing when officers were verifying names of listed suspects who were also slated for court arraignments.
