HOW SUPPORTING ARSENAL COST POPULAR JOURNALIST HIS JOB.

NTV Senior Investigative reporter, Seth Duncan Olale, needs little to no introduction in the media fraternity since his debut as a sports intern.

The current affairs journalist, narrated to Saints Unfiltered, how his support for the Arsenal team cost him a job offer when he was job hunting.

He was straight from Daystar University-Valley road campus, when the opportunity came for an internship at Hopefm. This was going to be a life-changing moment for the reporter.

“I have cleared the university, and now the job-hunting process starts. I then applied to almost all the radio and television stations in the county. The first media house to call me for the internship was Hopefm- Christ is the Answer Ministries valley road(CITAM),” Olale narrated.

When he appeared for the interview on the instructed date, delighted Olale was challenged with a practical task that made him shake in his boots. The software used in the studio was not similar to what he was taught to operate.

 “Hey Seth, we have received your internship application. You are from Daystar University? Have you ever done this, this, and this?” the interviewer asked.

“Yes, I have,” Seth answered. 

“ I was then placed for practicals session in the studio using an adobe software that we(students of Daystar) were not taught with when learning. Remember, this was after the theory interview. I sweated till the lady supervising called me for the next phase that was an oral interview,” Olale added.

Still hopeful that lady luck will grace his way, the oral interview became a daunting moment that he still remembers to date.

“So Seth, this is an oral interview. You want to be a radio presenter ? news, business or sports? Then, let’s assume you are a sports journalist and assume Arsenal is playing a game the same day you are on duty, supposed to be working and alone in the studio.You have been given live Emirates ticket to the match, what will you do?” she posed.

Being naive and a lover of the Arsenal team, he gave his honest answer, expecting to seize the opportunity. He responded that he would look for a colleague to carry out his day’s task before heading to the match in London, United Kingdom(UK).

Needless to say, he did not get the job.

However, he did not wallow in the failure, as he applied for an internship opportunity at Nation Media Group. He got selected among the top three from a pool of 58 applicants.

Olale has grown from a sports intern to a senior investigative journalist and current affairs at NTV.
