Final Breakthrough as Azimio and Kenya Kwanza Agree
Azimio and Kenya Kwanza coalitions are undertaking bipartisan talks aimed at restoring peace in the country and honesty in general elections.
President Ruto has been pro-talks despite his deputy showing clear signs of not supporting them despite the economic turmoil experienced during protests as organised by the opposition leader Raila Odinga.
The talks are being led by NA Majority Leader Kimani Ichungwa and Azimio Co-principal Kalonzo Musyoka with the two seemingly in agreement over 2 key issues.
The two sides will pocket Ksh 50,000 each as sitting allowance while other members of the committee pockets Ksh 40,000 each. This has received criticism following citizens plea to reduce cost of operations in the country.
A breakthrough has been struck between the two sides with many of the reform proposals touching on constitutional clauses that require a national referendum. The three issues are;
1. Creation of new counties
2. Changing Presidential term limit
3. Creation of Office of Official Opposition Leader.
Despite the progress, the issues cannot be changed without a referendum and there is not shorcut about it.
