UDA GOES TO ICC HAGUE

Deputy President William Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance (UDA) has written to International Criminal Court (ICC) over “state-sponsored” violence.

In a letter by Secretary General Veronica Maina addressed to President Uhuru Kenyatta and copied to the ICC prosecutor on January 17, UDA said it is concerned about the disruptions of their rallies as the country heads to the August 9 general elections.

Maina cited an incident at Jaracanda Grounds on Saturday where UDA rally was disrupted by rowdy youths.

“It has become a abundantly clear that the goons were encouraged and facilitated to prevent the event from taking place in keeping with firm bedroom policy of using violence,” she said in the letter.

The incident was later contained by the police and the rally went on.

“It has become abundantly clear that the goons were encouraged and facilitated to prevent the event from taking place in keeping with firm bedroom policy of using violence.

“This disastrous practice is an official policy in ODM and has been implemented over the years to suppress democratic competition, at horrendous cost to innocent Kenyans,” the letter added.

The DP also blamed ODM leader Raila Odinga for the Jacaranda incident.

However, Raila distanced himself from the chaos and said Ruto was using them as an excuse after sensing defeat.
