ANOTHER CAROLINE KANGOGO KILLS POLICE OFFICER INSIDE POLICE STATION

Police officers have launched a manhunt for a cop accused of shooting dead a colleague at a police station in Laikipia County.

The officer was reported to have shot dead his colleague, identified as Leonard Ojwang, on Wednesday, August 18 at Doldol Police Station.

According to police sources in the region who spoke to Kenyans.co.ke, the officer made away with a loaded AK-47 rifle shortly after the heinous act. The suspect has been identified as Titus Keen, a police officer attached to Doldol Police Station.

“The incident occurred at their residence in the police lines,” a police report stated. It, however, did not clarify what led to the shooting.

Police officers in Laikipia who spoke to Kenyans.co.ke confirmed the incident, adding that detectives were already combing the crime scene for evidence and analysis.

The crime scene was also sealed off to avoid witnesses and on-lookers from tampering with any valuable evidence.

A similar incident was witnessed at Kasarani Police quarters in Nakuru, on July 5 when the late corporal Caroline Kangogo fatally shot her colleague, John Ogweno, at the parking lot.

Kangogo, was further roped into the murder of security expert and former police officer, Peter Ndigwa, in Ruiru, Kiambu County. The fugitive police officer eluded detectives for over a month before she was found dead at her parents home in Anin, Iten in Elgeyo Marakwet County.

“There was a hole in her head caused by the bullet and areas of burning called muscle print. The incident happened at the crime scene. There were stories of whether she was shot or she shot herself.”

“We shall only establish that once we do more tests. We have taken swabs on the hand to find out whether there was gunshot residue. As a pathologist, my job is to establish the cause of death. We shall only establish the manner of death—either suicide, accident or natural death—once we see the lab results,” Chief Government Pathologist, Dr Johansen Oduor stated after conducting an autopsy.

His report detailed that Kangogo died by a single gunshot wound to the head through the chin, causing damage to her skull and brain.

On August 11, Inspector General of Police, Hillary Mutyambai unveiled a counselling program for police officers and their families. The IG noted that officers would be offered psychological support to address the escalating cases of suicide and mental disorders.

“The recruited staff will be instrumental in offering psychological support to police officers and their families with a view to improving their life skills,” stated the IG.
