RAILA’S GRANDSON KILLED.
Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Coalition Party Leader Raila Odinga now says the police officer who died last month during anti-government protests in Kisumu was his grandson.
Odinga, who spoke on Thursday during a town hall meeting at Ufungamano House in Nairobi, revealed to be biologically related to the deceased officer as he condemned police brutality.
He highlighted the plight of innocent Kenyans who sustained different injuries during the demonstrations.
“Last week I visited Kenyans in Mbagathi and Kenyatta Hospital; young people were shot by the police. Their only crime was participating in a legal demonstration because the police had been notified,” Odinga said.
“A young man in Kisumu was knocked down by police. That young man who was knocked in Kisumu by the police is my grandson. His mother is my niece.”
The Azimio chief went on to assert that he was the one who facilitated the deceased officer’s recruitment to the police force.
“I am actually the one who recruited him to the police,” he said.
While confirming the officer’s death, Inspector General of Police Japhet Koome said Corporal Ben Oduor succumbed to injuries sustained during protests on March 30 while undergoing treatment at the Aga Khan Hospital in Kisumu.
Initial reports had earlier indicated that Oduor, who was based at Keroka Police Station in Nyamira County, was keeping the peace around Jamia Supermarket area when he was overwhelmed by protesters who viciously descended upon him with kicks and blows.
After a post-mortem was conducted on the body of the deceased, reports emerged that Oduor was run over by a police vehicle.
