Nyamira County Governor To Lose His Seat
The fate of Nyamira County Governor Amos Nyaribo will be decided on Tuesday, October 3, 2023, when the county assembly is scheduled to vote on his impeachment motion.
The motion was tabled by a group of 28 MCAs, who accused Nyaribo of corruption, abuse of office, and gross misconduct. Nyaribo has denied the allegations, calling them politically motivated.
If the motion is passed by two-thirds of the assembly, Nyaribo will be removed from office. He would then be replaced by the deputy governor, who would serve as acting governor until a by-election is held.
Some residents of Nyamira County have expressed support for the impeachment motion, saying that Nyaribo has failed to deliver on his promises. Others have called for a peaceful resolution to the dispute, saying that impeachment would further destabilize the county.
The impeachment motion is expected to be a closely contested vote. Nyaribo’s supporters have vowed to fight the motion, and they have accused the MCAs who tabled it of being out to get him.
Residents Call for Reconciliation
In the meantime, some residents of Nyamira County have called for reconciliation between Nyaribo and the MCAs. They say that the impeachment motion is only dividing the county and that it is time for the two sides to come together and find a solution that is in the best interests of the people.
“We are tired of all this fighting,” said one resident. “We want our leaders to work together and focus on delivering services to the people.”
It remains to be seen whether the impeachment motion will be passed. However, one thing is clear: the vote will have a major impact on the future of Nyamira County.
