LEAKED: WHY CITIZEN TV PRESENTER REJECTED KSHS 10 MILLION CAR GIFT FROM WANYAMA.
It’s not a common practice to have friends who are ready to offer their special items to others.
However, this was not the case for Victor Wanyama, the Harambee stars midfielder and the CitizenTV sports anchor Mike okinyi.
Okinyi paid a visit to the Kenyan international and CF Montréal while still in the United Kingdom, when Wanyama was playing for English Premiership side, Southampton.
Wanyama then gave the TV anchor an a nice tour of the city in his sleek, customised Mercedes Benz ML 350.
The luxurious car is estimated at Ksh6-10 million before tax.
The star player agreed to give Okinyi the expensive car on condition that he pays for the custom duty and the shipping fees.
“That Mercedes is on point, you guy, it’s a one of a kind. How about it,” Okinyi recalled during a past media interview with his colleague, Jeff Koinange.
Okinyi, one of the most celebrated sports journalists in kenya, however refused the offer after realising that he would pay taxes close to Ksh18.5 million.
“Wanyama told me that if I wanted the Mercedes, I can ship it to Mombasa and drive it to Nairobi,” Okinyi disclosed. “But no way, that’s a type of gift that is heavily taxed – Ksh18.5 million,” he said.
The car was a German machine consisting of a V6 Cylinder Engine with a torque of 274 nets per 3500 revolutions per minute. The fuel tank capacity is approximately 93 litres with a premium unleaded V-6 engine type.
the vehicle also consisted of a heated front and back seats, navigation systems, adaptive cruise control, adjustable steering wheel, remote trunk release among other key functionalities.
