School Closing Dates Changed

The Ministry of Education has not changed the third term closing dates as alleged by some blogs.

Communications officer at the Ministry of Education Kennedy Buhere through a phone call with the Star said pre-primary, primary, and secondary schools will proceed on holiday as previously announced.

“The third term closing dates remain unchanged. Learners will commence their holiday from October 27 as earlier announced,” he said.

He noted that there were no changes in the school calendar, and communications only come from the Ministry of Education and its official social media pages.

Buhere was responding to a claim made by Education News Arenaalleging that the ministry had reviewed the closing date to October 19.

“Term 3 in primary and secondary schools across the nation, according to sources, pre-primary, primary, and secondary schools will now commence their holiday break on October 19, as opposed to the previously announced date of October 27 by the ministry,” the blog stated in part.

“This term, being the shortest and crucial due to upcoming national examinations, does not include a mid-term break,” it continued.

In January, the Ministry of Education adjusted the 2023 school calendar, changing the duration of the national exam.

“KCPE and KPSEA will begin on November 30 and end on November 2,” the circular reads.

This means the exam will take four days just like the initial calendar.

Form 4 candidates will sit for their KCSE exams from November 3 to November 24, which will take 21 days.

“KCSE marking will begin on November 27 to December 15.”

The first term will have 13 weeks, the second term 14 and the third term will be the shortest with 10 weeks.
