DID POLICE ARREST CS UKUR YATANI’S SON AT THE AIRPORT?

Treasury Cabinet Secretary Ukur Yatani has come out to address social media reports of his son’s arrest at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA).

In a statement on Sunday, September 26, Yatani refuted reports circulating on social media which alleged that one of his sons was arrested ferrying a hoard of foreign currency at JKIA on Friday, September 24.

Yatani stated that the reports, which were being spread by bloggers on various social media platforms, were false and unfounded.

On Sunday, September 26, a  blogger published allegations that Yatani’s son was under custody for attempting to sneak undeclared foreign cash out of the country.

The CS stated that the allegations damaged his reputation and that of his family, stating that the bloggers were out to gain from their publications.

“It’s sad to note the extent heartless individuals can go to besmirch innocent family’s reputation to achieve an end,” read the statement

Yatani concluded that he would seek legal redress against the two bloggers who published reports on their social media platforms.

Recently, leaders from northern Kenya unanimously picked the Treasury CS as the region’s spokesperson and the leader of the UPYA movement.

Speaking after a retreat on September 18, 2021, Isiolo Governor Mohammed Kuti stated that the leaders picked the CS as their spokesperson due to his vast experience in governance.

“We have started the process of legalizing this movement and we have picked CS Yatani as our spokesperson and given him the nod to work with other leaders,” Kuti stated.

Yatani was appointed as the Treasury Cabinet Secretary by President Uhuru Kenyatta on July 24, 2019.
