Teacher Commits Suicide at School Parade
Students of a mixed and boarding Secondary School in Migori County were shocked after finding one of their teachers dangling on a tree at their parade ground.
In a statement shared by police on Tuesday, September 12, the teacher allegedly had an argument with his wife after which, he retreated to a local bar.
After his drinking escapade, the teacher went to school, where he was allowed in by security guards, who were not aware that the teacher harboured intentions of killing himself.
“He walked into the school compound at night, and went to the parade ground where he took his own life,” the police statement read in parts.
The body of the teacher was discovered in the morning as students prepared to start their lessons.
“Preliminary investigations revealed that he had quarrels with his wife before committing suicide. The teacher had been commuting from his rural home to school,” the police statement read in parts.
According to the police, the Secondary School teacher never went back home but was seen in the company of friends at the local market.
“Prior to that evening, he was seen making several calls possibly in arguments with his caller believed to be the wife who told him not to come home if he was drunk,” the statement claimed.
Migori police officers rushed to the scene, and retrieved the teacher’s body and transported it to a public mortuary at Migori County Referral Hospital, awaiting autopsy.
Consequently, the investigators also recorded statements from the students who discovered the body and school administrators who reported the matter to the police.
As part of the ongoing investigation, police officers are expected to visit the teacher’s home in order to record a statement with the wife.
