SO SAD! REST IN PEACE.
Outspoken Canada-based Kenyan lawyer Miguna Miguna has been thrown into mourning following the demise of his first cousin.
The cousin, Dan Otieno Ong’or, breathed his last on the night of Tuesday, March 8, while receiving treatment in India.
Taking to Facebook, the exiled barrister disclosed that Ong’or, who hails from Gem in Siaya, lost the battle to cancer.
“The saddest news of 2022. My first cousin, Dan Otieno Ong’or, has succumbed to cancer in India. Rest in peace wuod Gem Oremo,” white Miguna.
The Kisumu county employee was diagnosed with metastatic melanoma.

A section of Kenyans took to Miguna’s social media to condole with him. Here are some comments sampled by:
Rono Peter said:
“Take heart general may his soul rest in eternal peace and God comfort you at these trying moments.”

Financial assistance
In December 2021, the lawyer appealed for help from Kenyans to raise funds for Ong’or’s treatment.
In a statement issued on his Facebook page on Saturday, December 17, Miguna pleaded with Kenyans to assist them in any way possible.
“Dan Ong’or is my first cousin. He works for the Kisumu county government. This sad news (cancer) arrived at my doorstep at the worst time. Please help out if you can.
“The stagging can not be known since there is no pet scan which is operational in the country. Hence treatment cannot commence. However, CT scan indicated that the lungs and stomach are still safe. We require urgent assistance to prevent the spread,” a statement on his M-Changa fundraising site added.
Can’t travel to Kenya
The self-styled five-star general would have loved to travel to Kenya to give his cousin a befitting send-off, but it might not be possible.
Miguna’s attempts to get to the country have been hitting a snag since his 2018 deportation after the mock swearing-in of ODM leader Raila Odinga as people’s president.
His bid to travel to Kenya was revived in late 2021 after the High Court directed the Kenyan embassy in Berlin, Germany, to issue him travel documents.
However, his journey did not proceed beyond Berlin, Germany, where he was met with an international red alert against him.
In a statement, the exiled politician claimed Air France could not allow him to board the plane due to red alerts issued by the Kenyan government.
