RUTO APPOINTS NEW CBK GOVERNOR
President William Ruto has nominated former Treasury PS Kamau Thugge as the next Central Bank of Kenya Governor.
Through a statement on Monday evening, Ruto appointed Thugge to take over from former GovernornPatrick Njooge
Thugge holds a Doctorate Degree in Economics from Hopkins University in Maryland USA.
In October 2022, former Treasury Principal Secretary Kamau Thugge was appointed as the Senior Advisor and Head of Fiscal Affairs and Budget Policy by Ruto.
Thugge previously faced accusations ranging from conspiracy to commit economic crimes, abuse of office, financial misconduct, to non-compliance with public finance management rules.
However, all charges against him were dropped by Director of Public Prosecutions Noordin Haji in 2021, turning Thugge into a State witness in the Kimwarer and Arror dam scandals against his ex-boss Henry Rotich.
These appointments were announced by the outgoing Head of Public Service Joseph Kinyua, which included rewarding several allies of President Ruto with key government positions.
Augustine Cheruiyot has been assigned the role of Senior Advisor and Head of Economic Transformation and Secretariat. Meanwhile, Nancy Laibuni has been entrusted with a significant role as an Associate Member of the President’s Council of Economic Advisors. These appointments underscore the ongoing reshuffling within the government as it aims to bolster its administration.
