RUTO AND OTHER POLITICIAN WHO ATTENDED GIDEON MOI’S SON WEDDING

Kigen Moi who is son to KANU Party Chairman Gideon Moi wedded Ms Rebecca Chepchumba at a private ceremony on Saturday May 7.

In the function, President William Ruto’s younger brother David Ruto was among notable guests who attended the ceremony held in Kericho County on Saturday.

Ruto’s bother David came along with his wife Carol Ruto to the event that was also attended by a section of other top dignitaries.

His attendance came as a surprise to many considering that the two families of Moi and Ruto have had a long-running political difference that stretches back in 90s.

Gideon, during the last general election, backedAzimio la Umojacolaition leader Raila Odinga in the August polls in what was viewed as an escalation of political rivalry between the two most prominent political families in Rift Valley.

It is still fresh in mind that President Ruto, then deputy president, was allegedly blocked from seeing the late former president Daniel Moi months before he died on February 4, 2020.

The attendance of the president’s brother fueled speculation that the two families could possibly have buried the hatchet or thinking of working together for the sake of unity.

In March, President William Ruto handed a multimillion energy contract to a company believed to have its roots in Moi family.

Ruto’s government gave Gideon the license of operation in the generation and supply of power; and notably, Energy CS Davis Chirchir visited Menengai geothermal fields where he inspected the construction of the geothermal power plant by Sosian Energy – a firm related to Moi.

Chirchir would then announce that Sosian is expected to generate at least 35MW of electricity to the local power grid.Sunday, May 7, 2023
