RIP: POLICE SHOOTING IN KISIMU
Residents in Jua Kali, Kamas area, Kisumu on Tuesday took to the streets after claims that three people were shot within the area today.
Trouble began when police officers were pursuing a PSV vehicle and on reaching the Jua Kali area, they threw spikes but the vehicle did not stop.
The officers lobbed teargas and allegedly fired live bullets hitting three people, of the three one was a lady who was confirmed dead at Agah Khan Hospital.
County commander Alphonce Wambua confirmed that they had released some PSV vehicles that were held at the station, including the one that was being pursued by his officers
Wambua said the matter is being handled and they will give feedback immediately.
The protesters are currently converging at the Aga Khan roundabout and have also lit tyres within the area.
Currently, no vehicles, tuk tuk or even motorcycles are passing the route.
The residents want Kisumu Central police station to condemn the alleged shootings, saying they won’t allow the reckless use of live bullets.
The cops have also managed to thwart attempts by the protesters to torch a police vehicle at the station
The officers were again forced to lob teargas and shot in the air to disperse the crowd, who had already stoned some of the windows at the station.
