Gachagua in a tweet paid his tribute to Brigadier Kiboko as he condoled with the family and friends for their loss.
“Paying my last respects to Mau Mau freedom hero John Njigoya Kagwe known as Brigadier Kiboko. With other fighters, Brigadier Kiboko valiantly fought for our freedom from colonialists. Today, we celebrate his immense contribution in the fight for our independence,” he said.
Brigadier John Kiboko diedon August 18 at the Nairobi Hospital where he had been receiving treatment after a prolonged battle with an illness that started in 2019.
His widow Agnes Murugi on August 18 appealed to the government to accord him a dignified state funeral equivalent to that bestowed upon other notable figures.
Before his death, Kiboko pleaded with President William Ruto to allow him and other fighters access Kamiti Maximum Prison where Dedan Kimathi was allegedly buried.
They wanted to retrieve his body and give him a decent burial alongside his wife Mukami Kimathi.
“I know where Kimathi was buried in Kamiti. All we are asking you, Mr President, is that you allow us access to Kamiti prison for two months so that we can retrieve Kimathi’s body for a proper burial next to his wife. This was Mrs Mukami’s dying wish,” the late Kiboko pleaded.
