Protests Begin on a High Note, Avoid These Areas
Azimio One Kenya protesters have kicked off protests in Kisii county halting businesses and smooth movement of vehicles.
Vehicles were forced to reverse and change routes after rowdy youths used stones to barricades the roads leading to town. They were also seen mobizing dozens of others youths.
According to a report, the demonstrators barricaded a section of the highway at Daraja Mbili, cutting off access to Kisii and Migori counties.
The youth were responding to Azimio leader Raila Odinga’s call for protests. As a consequence of their actions, there was a major disturbance, leading to extensive traffic queues on both sides of the highway, leaving commuters and travelers stranded.
Interior CS Kithure Kindiki on Tuesday said they will not allow protesters to halt businesses and destruction of properties.
Some Azimio leaders have also been arrested as police move with speed to stop protests.
Adamson Bungei, the Nairobi police chief, asserted that they would not permit any gathering to occur and warned those intending to participate that they would be dispersed.
