Kenya Kwanza Politicians Dumps Ruto For Raila
The Pamoja African Alliance (PAA) witnessed a significant shift as members aligned with Senate Speaker Amason Kingi decided to join the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party, a move orchestrated by ODM’s leader, Raila Odinga.
The 27 members, received by Raila in Nairobi, cited dissatisfaction with their involvement in the Kenya Kwanza administration as the primary reason for their departure.
Expressing their grievances, the politicians revealed that despite being part of Kenya Kwanza, only Amason Kingi’s voice held sway in crucial government matters, leaving others marginalized. John Mwamutsi, a former Member of the County Assembly, emphasized the lack of inclusivity within Kenya Kwanza.
Furthermore, the leaders attributed their move to ODM to unfulfilled promises made by President William Ruto. They commended Raila for welcoming them into ODM, asserting that the party prioritized the well-being of Kenyans.
Some members claimed they were coerced into joining Kenya Kwanza, following Amason Kingi’s decision to switch allegiance before the 2022 General Election.
In a symbolic gesture, the party’s youth leader, Samir Nyundo, handed over keys to all PAA offices nationwide, signifying the transition to ODM. Raila, in turn, presented the new members with official ODM merchandise, including caps and sashes. ODM Secretary General and Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna announced plans for an after-party to integrate and welcome the newcomers, emphasizing that this move would strengthen ODM’s influence in Kilifi County.
Noteworthy is ODM’s ongoing nationwide recruitment drive ahead of the party elections scheduled for April, reflecting a strategic effort to consolidate support. The article also highlighted various other news stories, ranging from demands for NTSA disbandment to the tragic crash of a Kenyan plane in Somalia.
The PAA members’ defection sheds light on internal discontent within Kenya Kwanza and underscores the political dynamics at play in the lead-up to upcoming elections. The move to ODM is framed as a response to perceived neglect and unmet promises, contributing to the evolving political landscape in Kenya.
