Jubilee Party Unveils New Candidate To Battle William Ruto
Jubilee Party Secretary-General Raphael Tuju on Wednesday, August 18, handed the party’s nomination certificate for Kiagu Ward by-election in Meru County to Samson Magambo Kinyua.
The by-election is slated for October 14.
While presenting the ticket, Tuju assured Kinyua of the party’s commitment and support to ensuring that he clinches the seat.
“The SG has reaffirmed that the Party will offer Mr Kinyua the necessary support throughout the campaign and election period,” read a statement shared on the Jubilee party Facebook page.
The unveiling of the Jubilee candidate came barely two days after the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party, associated with Deputy President William Ruto, announced its candidate for the mini-poll.
After a meeting with aspirants and the candidate who won the party ticket, the DP took to his social media handle to thank those who competed against Simon Kiambi Ngaruni for agreeing to support him.
DP Ruto announced that UDA party politicians from Meru County and their supporters will drum up support for Ngaruni so that he clinches the seat.
The duel will most likely be used as a test run for the 2022 General Elections with UDA party leaders keen on proving that the Mt Kenya region is their political bedrock.
IEBC gazetted the by-election date on July 27. Three by-elections including for Eldas, Kiagu and Nguu/Masumba ward will be held on the same date.
The by-election was occasioned by the death of former officeholder Eunice Karegi. Karegi was elected on Maendeleo Chap Chap (MCC) party ticket.
She succumbed to cancer at a city hospital on May 27, 2021.
