ODM leader Raila Odinga has led Kenyans in mourning Mzee Ajwang Nyakwamba.

Mzee Ajwang was the father to Homa Bay Senator Moses Kajwang, Ruaraka MP TJ Kajwang and late Otieno Kajwang.

In a statement Thursday, Raila said that he has lost a friend he shared precious moments with.

“I am deeply saddened by his death but grateful for having known and shared precious moments with him,” he tweeted on Wednesday night.

The former Prime Minister remembered Mzee Ajwang as a respected community leader, educationist and church elder who effortlessly married Luo and Christian traditions at a time when it seemed impossible.

“Mzee Ajwang exemplified the dignity of Luo traditions that many were running from. He led a polygamous family where children never cared who their biological mothers were,” Raila said.

Senate Speaker Kenneth Lusaka in his condolence message termed Mzee Ajwang as disciplinarian, who leaves behind a rich, indestructible legacy.

He also prayed for comfort to the Kajwang family as they go through this difficult time.

“Mwalimu David Ajwang Nyakwamba was a disciplinarian, consummate educationist and a respected leader in his community. He leaves behind a rich and indelible legacy. May the Lord grant @senatorkajwang , Hon TJ Kajwang and their entire family strength to bear with the immense pain,” Lusaka said.
