Dp Gachagua in Big Trouble
The DP, while accompanying President William Ruto at Mugoiri Girls, disclosed that he was shy and could not stand addressing a large number of girls.
Though this may have passed as a light remark among many, a section of women have termed Gachagua’s reckless and distasteful.
Scheaffer Okore, a governance and development policy expert, took to her Twitter account to express her disappointment in the remarks, terming the DP’s statement as stigmatising and unacceptable from a person of his calibre.
Gachagua, during his address, said that he was not in a position to say much because of the situation that he was in, and as a truthful person, he says he is, could not contain his shyness to make a lengthy address to the school’s fraternity.
He went ahead to say that he would grant whatever request the school’s chairman had made because he had heard the girls clap heartily and repeated to say that he could not look at the girls in their faces.
Other women on Twitter admitted that it was weird to hear the deputy president make those remarks, terming his speech as a red flag.
Journalist Akisa Wandera termed the remarks by Gachagua as cringing.
However, other Kenyans like Haron Ogweno accused those against the remarks of reading too much in a light statement and making it a ground for activism.
Gachagua is known for speaking his mind, irrespective of how the audience would judge his sentiments.
